Wooden Bar Clamp

Here’s a clamp that is not only completely functional, it’s beautiful too. Made almost entirely from solid hardwood, these will be the centre of attention in your shop. But don’t let the good looks fool you – these were designed to be tough and ready to use every day.
Fast and easy to adjust, these clamps are also compact and weigh less than the same size all-metal clamps, making them more convenient to use. The bar can be made any length, and in fact you can make extra long bars for those very rare times you need something that long, and just use the moving jaw from a shorter one.

The wooden parts for this clamp are easy to make with ordinary workshop tools. And the hardware is commonly available. I made these from ash and cherry, but any species of hardwood can be used.

The plans consist of 23 pages, with a materials list, 10 detailed parts drawings and 7 assembly drawings. It is in an easy to follow, step by step format that walks you through every part of the build.

For your convenience, this plan is made with both imperial and metric dimensions, with the metric dimensions (millimeters) in brackets. Screw sizes and other hardware are in imperial units.
