Welding A Broken Band Saw Blade Workshop Projects

A little more than a year ago, I accidentally cut into my band saw blade with my angle grinder. I had been working on a jig that uses the grinder to sharpen the blade, when it slipped and cut in. As you can see from the picture (click to enlarge), I cut in about 1/3 of the way. I continued to use the blade, but eventually a crack formed and it did break.


So, broken blade in hand and not much to lose from trying, I set up a crude holding jig to clamp the blade straight and in line:

the block and paper
spreading glue

Then used my welder on its lowest heat setting to weld the blade back together:

the stones ready to use

Looks pretty rough, but nothing a bit of grinding won’t cure.
I can’t say it’s as good as new, or that this is the best way to do this (silver soldering is), but it does work and will tide me over until a new blade gets here.
